Bak Named Nurse Manager

GREENFIELD — Katie Bak, BSN, RN, has been appointed nurse manager of the Intensive Care and Telemetry units at Franklin Medical Center.

A 1987 graduate of Baystate Medical Center School of Nursing, Springfield, Bak received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the UMass, Amherst, in 2004. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) at the University of Hartford.

Bak’s nursing career at Franklin Medical Center has given her a diverse critical care background. Following her graduation from Baystate, Bak worked first as a medical/surgical nurse, then as a critical care “float,” before joining the Intensive Care Unit, where she worked for five years. In 1998, Bak joined the Emergency Department as a staff nurse; in 2001, she was named clinical nurse supervisor. It was in that position that Bak discovered she had a passion for nursing leadership. “I began to really understand the important role a nurse manager plays in the success of any nursing team, and, ultimately, in the well-being of our patients,” she noted.
