Baystate Announces rograms For April

SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Health System’s Department of Continuing Education will offer the following educational programs for area health care providers and other professionals during April:
• The Casualties of Media Violence: Are Our Schools the Battleground? — Thursday, April 4, from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Log Cabin in Holyoke. Tuition for K-12 teachers and school nurses is $69 online and $79 by mail or fax. For all others, tuition is $79 online and $89 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after March 20. The program is designed for primary care physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners, nurses, psychologists, social workers, mental health professionals, educators, educational administrators, victim witness advocates, police, and lawyers. The program will provide the latest developments on the impact of media and witnessing violence on children and the implications of this impact on practice.

• Annual Update in Neurology — Friday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. at the Log Cabin in Holyoke. Tuition is $95 online and $105 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after March 23. The program is designed to provide physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and medical social workers with updates on contemporary issues in neurology.

• What to Expect When You Are Investing — Saturday, April 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Baystate Medical Center’s Chestnut Conference Center in Springfield. Tuition is $140 online and $150 by mail or fax. The program is designed to familiarize participants with traditional investment vehicles, as well as provide guidelines on strategically building and managing investment portfolios. The program, co-sponsored by Baystate Health System and the Eugene M. Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, is open to the general public.

• Innovations in Care of the Renal Patient — Sunday, April 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hotel Northampton. Tuition is $79 online and $89 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after March 27. The program is designed to provide nurses, dietitians, and nursing home administrators with in-depth knowledge of the latest advances in management of the renal client.

• Adolescent Health — Thursday, April 11, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. at Baystate Medical Center’s Chestnut Conference Center in Springfield. Tuition is $50 for registrations received by March 30 and $60 for those received after that date. The program is designed to provide the general pediatric practitioner with updates on key issues in adolescent health.

• Looking Toward the Future/Learning From the Past: STDs — Thursday, April 11, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Delaney House in Holyoke. Tuition is $65 online and $75 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after April 1. The program, which offers an update on sexually transmitted diseases, is designed for primary care physicians, nurse midwives, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, sanitarians, health educators, medical social workers, and outreach workers.

• New England Regional Genetics Conference — Saturday, April 13, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Baystate Medical Center’s Chestnut Conference Center in Springfield. Tuition is $40 online and $50 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after April 2. The program is designed for cytogenetics and molecular genetics personnel, nurses involved with patients with genetic disorders, physicians, pediatricians, and students considering genetics as a future profession.

• New Horizons in Care: Endocrine Communique — Wednesday, April 24, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Log Cabin in Holyoke. Tuition is $95 online and $105 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after April 11. The program will provide physicians, nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists with updates on contemporary issues in endocrinology.

• Contemporary Topics in Cardiology — Friday, April 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Log Cabin in Holyoke. Tuition is $85 online and $95 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after April 18. The program, which will update participants on current issues in cardiology, is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, cardiac nurses, pharmacists, and cardiac rehabilitation professionals.

• Contemporary Management of Important Infections: Strategies for the Primary Care Provider — Thursday, April 25, from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Springfield Marriott. Tuition is $85 online and $95 by mail or fax. Tuition is an additional $10 for all registrations received after April 10. The program is designed to provide participants with an update regarding current topics in infectious diseases.
