Baystate Medical Takes Home Economic Impact Award

WELLESLEY — Baystate Medical Center was one of three Western Mass. companies honored at the sixth annual Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Award competition, sponsored by MassEcon.

Winners were feted at a luncheon on Nov. 24 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston.

Baystate took the Gold award, while LTI Smart Glass of Pittsfield received the Silver award, and Interprint of Pittsfield won the Bronze award.

“We’re grateful for this award and recognition of the economic impact of the $250 million building project at Baystate Medical Center, and we’re proud to have put together private financing to support this project that will serve our community for generations to come,” said Michael F. Moran, vice president, Facilities and Guest Services, Baystate Health.

Companies winning awards were judged on their job growth, facility expansion, investment, and community involvement since Jan. 1, 2008. In addition to the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners from each region of the state, MassEcon will also confer three unique awards — the Statewide Strategic Asset Award to MassDevelopment for providing financial tools needed to stimulate economic growth across the Commonwealth; the Innovator’s Award to Zipcar for addressing the challenges of urban travel; and the Institutional Leadership Award to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for its hospital-wide effort to prevent layoffs.
