Jewish Geriatric Services Receives National Quality Award

LONGMEADOW — Jewish Geriatric Services (JGS) announced that it has been awarded the American Health Care Association’s (AHCA) and the National Center for Assisted Living’s (NCAL) Step I Quality Award for demonstrating a strong commitment to quality improvement.

JGS was one of 92 facilities nationwide to receive the prestigious Step I award, which was presented in October at the AHCA/NCAL’s 57th Annual Conference and Exposition, held in San Antonio. As part of the award application, the organization underwent a rigorous review of the services it provides (specifically in the areas of long-term care and assisted living) and the quality improvement initiatives in place over the last few years.

In addition, JGS’ mission, goals, and customer expectations were also analyzed, as well as its relationships with residents, families, staff, outside medical professionals, board leadership, vendors, and other third-party providers of services.

The Step I award program was initiated by the AHCA/NCAL in 1996 as a way to support quality improvement in AHCA/NCAL-member facilities by promoting quality awareness and best practices, and by recognizing significant accomplishments in quality improvement. The award is an adaptation of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s premier award recognizing distinguished achievements.

“The AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards are one of the preeminent recognitions of quality within the long-term care and assisted-living arenas,” said Alan Rosenfeld, President and CEO of Jewish Geriatric Services. “By receiving this award, the staff and leadership at JGS have demonstrated their commitment to quality care and meeting the needs of our residents. We congratulate all our employees and board members for receiving this honor and thank them for their continual dedication to quality improvement.”

Programs of Jewish Geriatric Services include the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home, Ruth’s House – An Assisted Living Residence, Spectrum Home Health Care, Wernick Adult Day Health Care Center, JGS Family Medical Care, and Genesis House.
