Mercy Wellness Center Launches Smoking Cessation Program

EAST LONGMEADOW — Smokers who have tried and failed to kick the habit may want to consider the new smoking cessation program at the Mercy Wellness Center in East Longmeadow.

This new program uses low levels of therapeutic laser light to stimulate “acupoints” or “energetic points” on the body to derive the effect of acupuncture, but without the use of needles. This quick and effective program is painless, with results achieved after only two sessions on consecutive days.

During the procedure, a laser probe is placed on “energetic” points on the smoker’s ears, arms, and hands. This triggers the body’s own release of endorphins and is deeply relaxing for the patient.

The endorphins replace the relaxing effect provided by nicotine and naturally wean the patient off the toxin. The procedure reports a success rate of 85{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5}.

“This method of smoking cessation is a holistic approach based on the principles of Eastern medicine,” said Agota Horvath, licensed acupuncturist. “Clients will be pleased to find that this technique is not only effective in curbing nicotine cravings, but it is also pain-free and deeply relaxing. Additionally, it detoxifies the body and relieves stress.”

“This innovative therapy is only available at the Mercy Wellness Center,” said Sheila Fiala, project director for Mercy Medical Center. “The addition of this smoking cessation program expands our offering of health and wellness services at the center and further demonstrates our commitment to providing programs focused on prevention and health enhancement.”

The smoking cessation program is offered at the Mercy Wellness Center at Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness, 45 Crane Ave., East Longmeadow. For more information or to make an appointment, call (413) 525-7451.
