New Sleep Center Opens at Mercy Medical Center

SPRINGFIELD — Mercy Medical Center announced the opening of a new six-bed Sleep Center in the Physicians’ Office Building at 300 Stafford St., Suite 102.

Services at the facility include diagnosing, managing, and treating patients identified with a potential sleep disorders. This new center operates in cooperation with Mercy’s hospital-based sleep center, which features three private rooms with individual facilities, and is outfitted with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.

A dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Sleep Center were staged on Oct. 15.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno cut the ribbon to officially open the facility. The program also featured a blessing offered by Sister Kathleen Sullivan, RSM, senior vice president of Mission for the Sisters of Providence Health System. Tours of the Sleep Center were provided.

Michael P. Coppola, MD, FCCP, serves as medical director and interpreting physician of the new sleep center. Coppola is board-certified in Sleep Medicine and is known for his pioneering work and published studies in the field of Sleep Medicine. The opening of the new Sleep Center marks the expansion of Mercy’s partnership with Total Sleep — the second-largest provider of sleep-management services in the U.S.
