Pediatric Diabetes Health Fair Slated

SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Children’s Hospital will stage its 9th annual Pediatric Diabetes Health Fair on Nov. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the Baystate Health Education Center, 361 Whitney Ave. in Holyoke, as part of American Diabetes Month.

The theme of this year’s event is “Helping You to Be Healthy,” presented by the Pediatric Endocrinology staff at Baystate Children’s Hospital. Among the topics to be covered will be learning how to make healthy food choices, managing weight, and having fun while exercising. There will also be an opportunity to learn how to calculate body mass index.

Parents and children will also have the opportunity to visit a number of informational booths where they will learn about the latest in diabetes equipment and supplies, to meet other families living with diabetes, and to ask staff questions.

There will also be a special presentation by families living with diabetes titled “Transitions: Navigating Diabetes from Preschool to College.”

In addition to children and their families, the event is also open to teachers, daycare providers, and other caregivers.
