Silhouettes Salon to Host Cut-A-Thon to Benefit Walk of Champions

WARE — On Saturday, March 26, Debbie Rozzen, owner of Silhouettes Salon, and her staff will donate their earnings and tips for a day for all haircuts to raise funds for the Walk of Champions. The Silhouettes Cut-A-Thon will feature $15 haircuts with no appointments necessary from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the salon, located at 164 B West St., Ware.

“We are proud to support such a great cause that helps so many people in our community,” said Rozzen, who has been in business locally for 22 years.

Added Michelle Boivin, a certified oncology nurse providing care in Ware, “Debbie doesn’t end her commitment for patients undergoing treatment at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital with the Walk of Champions. She is also a specially trained cosmetologist who facilitates our Look Good … Feel Better classes held at the hospital.” During those programs, sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Assoc., Rozzen shares makeup techniques to help women overcome the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

All proceeds of the Cut-A-Thon will support Team Silhouettes fund-raising efforts as they join hundreds of walkers in the 11th annual Walk of Champions, to be held at the Goodnough Dike area of the Quabbin Reservoir on Sunday, May 1, beginning at 10 a.m.

Since its inception, the Walk of Champions has raised more than $662,000 to assist, support, and instill hope in those facing cancer. All funds raised remain local to support cancer patients cared for in the Baystate Health Eastern Region at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital.

Outpatient cancer services at Baystate Mary Lane provide care for patients in Ware, Palmer and surrounding communities. Charitable support has funded initiatives in support of patient care, including family support counseling, educational outreach, pastoral care, medications, state-of-the-art equipment, and the Healing Garden located in the courtyard of the hospital. Overlooking the Healing Garden is the oncology suite, which provides convenient access to comprehensive cancer care, clinical trials, and a multi-disciplinary team approach to cancer care.
