SPHS Capital Campaign Gets $400,000 from Local Businesses

SPRINGFIELD — The Sisters of Providence Health System’s Capital Campaign has received contributions totaling $400,000 from two prominent Springfield-area businesses. The “Hope and Healing” Capital Campaign is designed to support Mercy Medical Center’s construction of the new Mary E. Davis Intensive Care Unit and renovation of the Ambulatory Surgical Center (outpatient surgery).

Big Y World Class Markets has contributed $250,000 to the campaign, and MassMutual Financial Group has donated $150,000. Officials from both businesses were recognized at a special reception at Mercy Medical Center in September.

“On behalf of the D’Amours and the entire Big Y family, we are delighted to be able to assist with Mercy Medical Center’s mission to heal with our gift to the Ambulatory Surgical Center’s expansion and renovation,” said Donald H. D’Amour, chairman and CEO of Big Y World Class Markets. “Our participation in this project reflects one more way that Big Y demonstrates our thanks and commitment to the people of Western Mass. and the communities we serve. We are indeed grateful to the Sisters of Providence for their continued commitment to heal through compassionate care. It is our hope that our gift will continue their legacy in the years to come.”

“Recognizing that quality health care is essential to the physical and economic well-being of our community, MassMutual is pleased to support Mercy Medical Center’s continued improvements to its facilities,” said Trish Robinson, senior vice president of Strategic Communications and Community Responsibility, and deputy head of Government Relations, MassMutual Financial Group.

Additionally, SPHS employee donors to the Capital Campaign were also recognized at the reception. Employees have contributed almost $500,000 to the fund-raising effort over the past two years. The “Hope and Healing” Capital Campaign is on track to raise $6 million dollars by the end of the year.
