GRIT and Gratitude
A $15,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of
TD Bank, will help the Mental Health Assoc. (MHA) expand programming and resources for its Grow, Reimagine, Inspire, Transform (GRIT) program, which provides residential rehabilitation for individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ in recovery with substance-use and mental-health disorders. Services offered at the Yale Street facility include recovery-based group therapy, how to cope mindfully with traumatic stress, and 24/7 individual support.
Centennial Celebration
On March 30, residents and staff of the Leavitt Family Jewish Home, a skilled- nursing facility at JGS Lifecare, gathered to celebrate the birthday of resident Ar- men Tashjian, who turned 100 on March 29. Attendees enjoyed the live musical performance of Irving Lewis singing the golden oldies, together with cake and ice cream sundaes to celebrate the oc- casion.
‘A Contemporary Conversation’
This spring, Holyoke Community College (HCC) launched a menstrual-equity initiative to ensure menstrual products are widely available on cam- pus and free for anyone who needs them. “Men- strual equity really is a contemporary conversa- tion,” said HCC student J. Gi (pictured), a former student trustee leading the “HCC Cares About M.E.” campaign. “It’s something that is taking off in different areas around the world. Access to menstrual products not only affects health, but can also impact attendance in school.”
