3 Loomis Communities to Take Part in National Senior Health and Fitness Day Activities
SPRINGFIELD —All three Loomis Communities locations will take part in National Senior Health and Fitness Day activities on Wednesday, with day-long activities for residents that promote health and wellness.
All three locations, Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing in Springfield, Loomis Village in South Hadley, and Applewood in Amherst, will begin their health and wellness activities at 9 a.m. and all will hold a nature walk at 2 p.m.
At the Applewood retirement community, activities will begin at 9 a.m. with an outdoor fitness class (weather permitting). Other activities will include additional fitness classes and healthy meals, culminating in an orchard arboretum walk at 2 p.m.
At Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing, residents will begin the day with chair aerobics at 9 a.m., with additional exercise activities offered throughout the day, including a 2 p.m. Nature walk on the campus’s walking trails at 2 p.m. Residents will also have the opportunity to bus to Loomis Village at 10:30 a.m. for swimming.
At Loomis Village, a resistance training class will begin the day at 9 a.m., and various classes will follow, including an Aqua Class at 10 a.m. and pool volleyball at 1 p.m. A nature walk along the Loomis Village Trail will begin at 2 p.m.
Held annually on the last Wednesday in May, and on Oct. 27, National Senior Health and Fitness Day is a nationwide health and fitness event held for older adults. More than 100,000 older adults will participate throughout the country at retirement communities, senior centers, park districts, hospitals, and other locations throughout communities.
