Apothecary Center Moves to Northgate Complex

SPRINGFIELD — The Apothecary Center, a 50-year-old independent pharmacy, recently moved from Upper State Street to expanded quarters at Northgate Professional Center on Main Street.

A bulk purveyor of prescription drugs and medical supplies to nursing homes and social service agencies, the Apothecary was purchased three years ago by two pharmacists, Philip Goncalves and Marcel Nunes.

The pair see their move to Northgate as an opportunity to expand their walk-in retail business, as well as better serve their traditional customer base with an expanded stock of medical products.

“Free parking, easy access, and more than three times the square footage we had on State Street will allow us to grow for many years to come,” Goncalves said.

According to Northgate owner Andrew Cohen, the center is undergoing extensive exterior renovations, including façade improvements, enhanced lighting, and new signage. He said the work reflects the decision to upgrade the 40-year-old strip center as Springfield’s newest venue for medical and other professional offices.
