Baystate Children’s Hospital Named Solutions for Patient Safety Hospital of the Month

SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Health was named Hospital of the Month for October 2024 by Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS).

SPS is a national organization that brings together a network of more than 144 children’s hospitals in the U.S. and Canada to work collaboratively to reduce serious harm to children. Baystate Children’s Hospital joined SPS in 2015.

Baystate Health stood out this month among the pediatric hospitals in the network for its commitment to quality and safety. SPS recognized the organization’s exemplary data sharing, employee-education practices, as well as prevention of hospital-acquired conditions.

“I am so proud of our nurses, doctors and other staff who work tirelessly every day to provide safe, high-quality care to children,” said Dr. Charlotte Boney, chair of Pediatrics at Baystate Health. “This award recognizes their collective dedication, teamwork, and focus on keeping our patients safe.”

Baystate Children’s Hospital was chosen as SPS Hospital of the Month the first time in February 2022 after successfully completing culture-of-safety training and hospital-wide error-prevention training, which included instituting a daily safety brief in October 2021. Only 12 out of the 144 member hospitals are chosen per year to be recognized for exemplary performance, and Baystate Children’s Hospital has now received this honor twice in 10 years.
