Baystate Franklin Medical Center Laboratory Earns Accreditation
GREENFIELD — Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s main laboratory has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for a two-year term. The certification is based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s accreditation programs.
Dr. Mary Zakhary, medical director of the BFMC laboratory, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s main laboratory is one of more than 7,700 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality-control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
“This is an extremely stringent inspection process,” Zakhary said. “I am proud to be a part of this excellent team of laboratory professionals at Baystate Franklin who work together to earn this accreditation.”
