Baystate Franklin Medical Center to Host Sports Clinic
GREENFIELD — Baystate Rehabilitation Care at Baystate Franklin Medical Center will sponsor a free sports clinic, called “Time to Spring into Action — Run, Bike, Jump, and Play: Are YOU Ready?” on Sunday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital’s main conference rooms.
The workshop is designed to help both competitive and recreational sports-minded athletes maximize their function, fun, and performance. The clinic will include a light breakfast and lunch. The workshop will feature conditioning, wellness, and medical experts: Cameron Puls, Dr. Julio Martinez-Silvestrini, Bob Uguccioni, Bruce Homstead, Pam Proulx, and Michelle Fitzell.
Puls, a physical therapist at Baystate Rehabilitation Care, will present “Effective and Efficient Screening to Prevent Injuries,” discussing and helping attendees avoid sports-related injuries. Martinez-Silvestrini, medical director of Baystate Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, will address Crossfit, delving into this popular training method, its background, risks, and benefits.
In his presentation, “Functional Exercise for Sport,” Uguccioni, a StrongFirst instructor, will explain the differences in training for power and strength. He will also share some take-away exercises that need minimal equipment. A nutritional consultant, Homstead will discuss “Strategic Hydration, Recovery, and Repletion,” and the reasons, science, and methodology for each. Finally, “Functional Stretching for Peak Performance” will be the topic covered by Proulx and Fitzell, both physical therapists with Baystate Rehabilitation Care.
Pre-registration for the free clinic is required. To register, call Baystate Health Link at (413) 773-2454.
