Baystate Franklin Medical Center Sponsors Sports Clinic March 29
GREENFIELD — Baystate Rehabilitation Care at Baystate Franklin Medical Center will sponsor a free sports clinic, “Throwing, Rowing, Rackets, Clubs, and More: a Sports Medicine Focus on the Upper Extremity Athlete,” on Sunday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital’s main conference rooms.
The workshop is designed to help both competitive and recreational sports-minded athletes maximize their function, fun, and performance. The clinic will include a light breakfast and snacks. The workshop will feature a panel of four sports-medicine experts: Dr. Julio Martinez-Silvestrini, Dr. Darius Greenbacher, Dr. James Bullock, and occupational therapist Ashlie Machon.
Martinez-Silvestrini will address “The Overhead Athlete and the Kinetic Chain,” explaining what the kinetic chain is and its importance to individuals participating in overhead sports. Board-certified in sports medicine, Martinez-Silvestrini is the medical director of Outpatient Baystate Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Greenbacher, Sports Medicine program director at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, will discuss “Keeping Your Shoulder Strong: Preventative Strategies and Non-surgical Treatments for Common Shoulder Issues in Sports.” His talk will focus on ways to prevent, and techniques to treat, common shoulder injuries in sports.
A board-certified shoulder and sports-medicine orthopedic surgeon, Bullock will discuss “Surgical Intervention for Injury of the Shoulder.” He will focus on conservative and surgical intervention for common shoulder injuries and problems in sports.
Machon, a certified hand therapist in Baystate Franklin Rehabilitation Care, will address “The Elbow and Wrist: Disorders That Can Take You Out of Action.” She will discuss ways to prevent and techniques to treat common elbow and wrist injuries in the active athlete.
