Baystate Health Announces Melonie Jackson as New Chief People Officer

SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Health announced that Melonie Jackson has joined the organization as chief people officer (CPO), effective March 31. As CPO, she will lead Baystate Health’s human-resources strategy, focusing on attracting, developing, and retaining a highly skilled and engaged workforce that aligns with the organization’s mission and vision.

Jackson will oversee initiatives in leadership development, talent recruitment and retention, employee engagement, workforce wellness, and labor strategy. Additionally, she will foster a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement across Baystate Health, the major employer and economic and health pillar in Western Mass.

“Melonie’s dynamic leadership and commitment to innovation in human resources will be invaluable as we work to build a clinically driven, physician-led health system,” said Dean Sanpei, chief administrative officer and chief strategy officer at Baystate Health. “Her experience in leading HR within large, integrated health systems and health plans will further strengthen our ability to serve our caregivers and help drive future growth.”

With more than 20 years of experience as a human-resources executive, Jackson brings a wealth of expertise in healthcare, finance, and technology. Prior to joining Baystate Health, she served as vice president of Human Resources at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), the largest non-governmental employer in Pennsylvania. In this role, she was responsible for HR strategy across nine hospitals in Pennsylvania and New York. She successfully led workforce-transformation initiatives, enhanced talent acquisition, and implemented programs that strengthened workplace culture and increased employee engagement.

Her extensive experience also includes leadership roles at Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health System) in Grand Rapids, Mich., and progressive HR leadership positions at Capital One, Methodist Health System, and Regions Bank. Her expertise in HR strategy and workforce analytics will support Baystate Health in building a preferred destination to work and practice while continuing to elevate its clinical excellence and coordinated care across the region.

Jackson holds a bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University, an MBA from Texas Woman’s University, and a certificate in executive compensation from the Wharton Executive Education program at the University of Pennsylvania.
