Baystate Health to Present Free Virtual Heart & Vascular Health Lecture Series

SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Health will offer its popular, free Virtual Heart & Vascular Health Lecture Series during the month of February, beginning with “Leg Heaviness or Painful Varicose Veins” on Sunday, Feb. 2.

The Virtual Heart & Vascular Health Lecture Series, presented by the Baystate Heart & Vascular Program as part of American Heart Month, will focus on the latest advances in heart and vascular care. All four events are virtual and available to the general public.

Dr. Y. Avery Ching, Endovascular Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Kristen Steidler, Cardiac Services, will lead the first lecture from noon to 1 p.m. Participants experiencing leg aches, swelling, or discomfort will learn there are many reasons for these symptoms. The discussion will include information on venous insufficiency and varicose veins, how these issues can develop, and their potential health implications, as well as exploring comprehensive treatment options.

The free lectures will continue with the second program, “Boost Your Heart Health with the Power of Nutrition,” offered on Sunday, Feb. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. Participants can join Brandy Sarrette, clinical dietician, and discover how nutrition, such as intermittent fasting and the Mediterranean diet, can be a game-changer for heart health, as well as exploring the vital connection between behavioral health and dietary choices.

The third lecture, “Revolutionizing AFib Treatment: Discover the New Farapulse Technology,” will be offered on Sunday, Feb. 16 from noon to 1 p.m. Kyle Gobeil, Electrophysiology, Cardiology, will discuss a breakthrough in treating Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) with Farapulse, the new, innovative, FDA-approved technology that offers a unique approach compared to traditional ablation procedures. Attendees will find out what this cutting-edge treatment could mean for their health.

The last virtual program offered in this series, “Cancer Drug Therapy and Heart Health,” takes place on Sunday, Feb. 23 from noon to 1 p.m. In this lecture, participants will hear from Dr. Anusha Ganapati Bhat, Cardio-oncology, Cardiology, and learn about the life-saving collaboration between oncology and cardiology. As cancer drug therapies can put added strain on the heart, a multidisciplinary approach is essential to help patients manage the cardiovascular effects of the treatments.

All lectures will begin at noon, followed by a question-and-answer session. Registration is required for each session by visiting baystatehealth.org/heartseries.
