Baystate Medical Center Named Among Best Hospitals in Massachusetts for 2025-26

SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Medical Center has been named by U.S. News & World Report as a 2025-26 Best Hospital.

Baystate Medical Center ranked sixth in Massachusetts in the latest edition of Best Hospitals. This year, U.S. News announced 504 Best Regional Hospitals across 49 states and 95 metro areas that have demonstrated superior outcomes. This is an improvement from last year’s ranking, where Baystate Medical Center was ranked seventh. The hospital was rated as High Performing in 16 conditions and procedures, up from 11 last year.

“We are pleased to see Baystate Medical Center moving up the ranks to number six in the state,” said Ronald Bryant, president and chief operating officer of Baystate Medical Center. “This placement is a reflection of our team members’ hard work and dedication to caring for our communities. We are proud to be ranked among the best in Massachusetts as we strive to achieve the best possible patient outcomes, patient safety, and optimal caregiver and patient experience.”

U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions; only 13% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals designation.

“This recognition by U.S. News & World Report is a powerful affirmation of our relentless commitment to clinical excellence and high-performing care. We’re not just meeting national standards — we’re bringing that level of excellence home, right here to our community, in our own backyard,” said Dr. Yvonne Cheung, chief medical officer for Baystate Health.

Baystate Medical Center was ranked as High Performing in the following 16 specialties or conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair; aortic valve surgery; back surgery (spinal fusion); chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; diabetes; heart attack; heart bypass surgery; heart failure; hip fracture; hip replacement; kidney failure; knee replacement; leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma; lung cancer surgery; pacemaker implantation; and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

Baystate Wing Hospital was recognized as High Performing in two areas: heart failure and pneumonia. Baystate Franklin Medical Center was recognized for pneumonia, and Baystate Noble Hospital for heart attack.

To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, and level of nursing care.
