Baystate Wing VNA and Hospice to Offer Bereavement Support Groups
PALMER — Healing after a loss can be a difficult journey. Beginning in September, Baystate Wing VNA and Hospice will offer support groups for people experiencing the grief that follows the death of a loved one. “Bereavement is the period of grief and mourning after a death,” said Melissa Ross, LICSW, social worker and bereavement coordinator. “Support groups can help to inspire strength in those who have suffered a tremendous loss and can offer a sense of togetherness and understanding from people who have experience the same feelings.” Ross will facilitate two groups, a drop-in bereavement support group that will meet the first Monday of each month from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and an eight-week general bereavement support group, requiring registration that will meet on Tuesday evening’s from 5:30 to 7 p.m., beginning Sept. 15 and will run through Nov. 3.
“These support groups offer the opportunity to make meaning of the loss with others who are going through a similar process,” said Ross. “Bereavement support groups offer companionship and understanding from others who are experiencing the similar challenges that living with grief brings.”
The Bereavement Support group meetings are held at the Baystate Wing VNA & Hospice offices located at the Palmer Technology Center, Building 3, 4th floor, 4 Springfield Street in Three Rivers. There is no cost to attend the sessions. To pre-register for the eight-week general bereavement support group or for more information, contact Melissa Ross at (413) 668-4226.
