PITTSFIELD — Berkshire Medical Center has achieved Level II Trauma Center verification from the American College of Surgeons, having met or exceeded the rigorous requirements for verifying trauma programs nationwide. In order to achieve the verification, BMC must constantly demonstrate its ability to commit the resources and personnel to provide rapid and optimal care for seriously injured patients.
“Receiving program verification from the American College of Surgeons is a vote of confidence and a reward for every doctor, nurse, EMT, paramedic, and healthcare staff member who worked so diligently to preserve and perfect the service,” said Helen Downey, RN, Chief Operating Officer of BMC.
“Being verified as a Level II Trauma Center makes us a better hospital on every front,” said Dr. Robert Cella, Vice President of Medical Affairs. “Every medical specialty at BMC is trained and ready to treat the most severely injured patient. The focus is on teamwork – having the right people in place at almost a moment´s notice, with access to the best facilities and equipment.”
In addition, BMC developed a quality assurance program designed specifically for its Trauma Service to insure that patients receive the highest standards of care. Dr. Sheldon Brotman, BMC´s Trauma Services director, and members of the trauma team visit each patient every day to collect data for the trauma registry which tracks both the patient´s progress and the quality of care provided by every clinician involved with the patient. |
