Berkshire Natural Brings First Healthy Vending Machine to Mass Pike
NORTHAMPTON — Berkshire Natural announced the first healthy vending machine providing healthy options to riders on the Massachusetts Turnpike. The machine is located in the Westborough service plaza on the westbound side.
Berkshire Natural, a healthy snack and beverage company servicing all of New England, offers healthy snack alternatives to traditional vending machines. Its mission is to help people live healthier lives by making delicious, organic, and local foods available. Products provided by Berkshire Natural have no trans fats, high-fructose corn syrup, or artificial flavors or colors.
The products are frequently sourced from New England companies. Snack options include Cedar’s salads, Dahlicious organic mango lassis, Eden organic pumpkin seeds and organic dried cherries, Green Mountain yogurt, Peeled Snacks organic dried mango, Polar seltzer, Way Better tortilla chips, Wonderful pistachios, and fruit.
“We’re really excited to offer healthy snack alternatives to travelers on the Mass Pike,” said Berkshire Natural co-founder Alden Bourne. “More and more, the general public is demanding convenient access to healthy and fresh food. The placement of our healthy vending machine at a highway service stop is a step toward recognizing the importance of healthy eating and access to nutritious food everywhere.”
Ex-television producers Bourne and David Starr, two fathers who recognized the importance of healthy living, launched Berkshire Natural in 2009. In addition to providing healthy food options, the company educates consumers about the importance of protecting the environment and about the value of buying local foods.
“We started Berkshire Natural as two dads focused on providing healthy snacks for our own kids,” Bourne said. As summer vacation approaches, it’s reassuring to know that families traveling down the Mass Pike will now have easy access to healthy snacks. We know commuters will love what’s in our machines, too.”
Berkshire Natural healthy vending machines can be found throughout Massachusetts in public and private schools as well as hospitals, YMCAs, corporations, and universities. More information is available online at www.berkshirenatural.com.
