Bikes Fight Cancer to Present $46,000 to Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson
NORTHAMPTON — In its inaugural year as a nonprofit, Bikes Fight Cancer raised more than $190,000 for cancer research and cancer services by engaging cyclists to fundraise and participate in various cycling events, including the Bikes Fight Cancer Charity Ride on June 17 at Tree House Brewing Co. in South Deerfield. The event attracted more than 300 riders of all abilities to ride and fundraise in the fight against cancer.
On Wednesday, Oct. 25 at noon, Bikes Fight Cancer will distribute its first local donation of $46,000 to Mass General Cancer Center (MGCC) at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. The event will take place in the hospital’s north lobby. Team Cooley, a team of doctors, nurses, and social workers, participated in the June event. A portion of the $46,000 will benefit the MGCC Cancer Patient Care Fund at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, which is a safety net that helps people experiencing personal financial hardships due to their cancer diagnosis, as well as supporting the cancer center’s operations fund.
“We are excited that, in our first year as a nonprofit, we are able to make such a large donation to a local organization that is directly helping local families impacted by cancer,” Bikes Fight Cancer founder Johnny Morin said. “Our mission of empowering our community to actively participate in the fight against cancer has just begun, and to be able to support organizations in Western Massachusetts who are at the forefront of the fight is rewarding for all of us.”
Bikes Fight Cancer’s partners helped ensure that 100% of rider raised funds went directly to cancer research, services, and families dealing with the burden of a cancer diagnosis. Partners this year include Tree House Brewing Co., which provides the location for the annual spring ride; Easthampton Savings Bank; Redbranch Landscaping; and Joe’s Garage in Haydenville.
