PITTSFIELD — Melissa Patterson, a molecular biology lab technologist at Berkshire Medical Center, has achieved certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a technologist in Molecular Pathology.
Patterson is a Pittsfield native, with an Associate’s Degree from Berkshire Community College. She is a 1996 graduate of the University of Massachusetts. She worked in both research and private industry for 5 years before coming to BMC.
Certification by ASCP affirms that an individual has demonstrated the knowledge to perform essential tasks in the medical laboratory. The ASCP Board of Registry certifies individuals upon completion of academic prerequisites, clinical laboratory education or experience, and successful performance on an examination. The ASCP is a leading certification agency for clinical laboratory personnel. The board of registry promotes the health and safety of the public by certifying competent laboratory professionals and maintaining a registry of certificants. The board is a separate certifying body within the organizational structure of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. |
