BMLH CT Services Earn National Accreditation

WARE — Baystate Mary Lane Hospital was recently awarded a three-year accreditation in computed tomography (CT) by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

CT is a diagnostic procedure that combines special X-ray equipment with sophisticated computers to obtain pictures of the inside of the body. CT scans of internal organs, bones, soft tissue, and blood vessels provide greater clarity and reveal more details than regular X-ray exams.

According to Michelle Bonneau, the radiology technologist who took the lead on the accreditation process, “the ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. I am proud to be a part of the team that worked together to provide evidence that we are meeting the high standards required by the ACR.”

To be considered for ACR accreditation, Baystate Mary Lane Hospital voluntarily submitted to a rigorous review process to be sure it meets national quality standards in all aspects of its CT service. Accreditation is awarded only after intense evaluation by board-certified radiologists and other experts in the field. The process can take up to one year to complete and includes hundreds of hours of on-site preparation work.

“We are very proud of our CT team and the services we offer to our patients,” said Dr. Edward Ostrowski, a radiologist at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital. “Having a nationally-accredited CT program is another way we can assure our patients and physicians of the high-quality diagnostic care we deliver each and every day.”

Currently BMLH operates a state-of-the-art 16-slice CT scanner and is also ACR-accredited in digital mammography.
