AIC Names Rousseau Interim Nursing Director
SPRINGFIELD — Karen S. Rousseau has been named interim director of the Division of Nursing at American International College. Rousseau takes over for Anne R. Glanovsky, who retired at the end of June.
An associate professor of Nursing at AIC, Rousseau was appointed to the AIC faculty in 1991. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Elms College and her master’s degree from UMass Amherst. She has worked at Baystate Medical Center as a clinical nurse manager and neonatal intensive care and unit manager.
Rousseau was recently inducted as president of the Beta Zeta at Large Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing.
Glanovsky joined the AIC staff in 1989, and served as director of the Division of Nursing for the past 20 years. A graduate of the St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford, Glanovsky earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Bridgeport and her master’s and doctoral degrees at UConn.
The AIC undergraduate Nursing program recently received recognition from a national accrediting board. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has granted the program initial accreditation for the next five years, the maximum time allowed for new members. Glanovsky said accreditation by CCNE means that nursing peers have recognized AIC as having a high-quality, professional program. “It is gratifying to receive such recognition from leaders in the nursing profession,” she said.
AIC became the first area private college to offer a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1977, and is now one of only three colleges in Western Mass. to offer a graduate Nursing program. The college graduated its largest Nursing class in May, as more than 70 students received degrees at AIC’s 124th commencement ceremony.
