Carla and Tommy Cosenzi Honored with Ken Coleman Extra Mile Award
SPRINGFIELD — Tommy and Carla Cosenzi of TommyCar Auto Group have been honored for their work raising money for cancer care and research through the Jimmy Fund Golf program with the annual Ken Coleman Extra Mile Award, which honors individuals within the Jimmy Fund golf community who have gone above and beyond in generously dedicating their time and energy to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.
“With more than $1 million raised over the past 11 years through the Tom Cosenzi Driving for the Cure Charity Golf Tournament, and with the countless other things Tommy and Carla do to give back to Dana-Farber and your community year-round, we could not think of more deserving recipients of this year’s award,” said Amy McCallum, assistant vice president at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. “Their extraordinary efforts are a key component of the Jimmy Fund’s success each year, and their longstanding commitment to our life-saving mission makes them both a source of inspiration for Dana-Farber’s patients and their families.”
The siblings were presented the award on March 5 at the annual Jimmy Fund Golf Appreciation Night at the Newton Marriott. They started the tournament in memory of their father, Tom Cosenzi, who passed away from a glioblastoma brain tumor in 2009.
“It’s an honor to support such an amazing hospital filled with such amazing doctors, nurses, and researchers,” they said, “and although our dad didn’t survive, we hope our efforts give others a better chance than our dad had.”
