| NORTHAMPTON – Members of the CDH medical staff raised $43,060 in support of the Cooley 2003 annual appeal, up from $25,250 in 2002 annual fundraising.
Dr. Ira Helfand, chair of the Medical Staff Annual Appeal Committee, credits the increase to a quality transformation. “The hospital administration listened to our requests to invest in quality patient care,” he said. “In response to our concerns, nurses, nurses’ aids, support staff, and clinical nurse specialists were hired, as well as additional positions in quality, risk, and safety.”
Helfand said that the financial support from the physicians reflects their appreciation of and continuing commitment to the ongoing improvements in patient care. “Many initiatives were put in place last year,” he says, adding “they are just beginning to bear fruit.”
