Chicopee to Announce Launch of Project Lifesaver

CHICOPEE — A press conference announcing the launch of Project Lifesaver, a new program for Chicopee residents, will take place on Wednesday, June 11 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chicopee City Hall auditorium, located at 274 Front St.

Project Lifesaver, a key initiative under the Hampden County TRIAD program, is a safety system designed to support families and caregivers of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, autism, dementia, Down syndrome, and other cognitive conditions. Participants wear a lightweight, easy-to-use transmitter that enables first responders to locate them quickly using state-of-the-art receivers, should they become lost or wander off.

Founded in 2021 by Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi, Hampden County TRIAD is a community safety initiative dedicated to empowering, educating, and improving the lives of people across Western Mass. The program supports a variety of projects aimed at enhancing safety and quality of life, including Project Lifesaver and Hampden County Life Files, a system providing vital medical information to first responders in emergencies.

“Project Lifesaver is about more than just technology — it’s peace of mind for families,” Chicopee Mayor Vieau said. “This partnership ensures our most vulnerable residents are cared for with urgency and compassion.”

Members of the Chicopee Police and Fire departments have completed comprehensive training to support the program, ensuring they can respond swiftly and effectively. The average recovery time for individuals enrolled in Project Lifesaver is under 30 minutes.

This program is available to residents who are diagnosed with a cognitive condition, have wandered off in the past or are at risk of doing so, do not drive a motor vehicle, and require constant supervision or monitoring. Families interested in learning more or enrolling a loved one are encouraged to contact the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office at 627 Randall Road, Ludlow, or call (413) 858-0060.
