Cooley Dickinson Doctors, PTs to Host Throwers’ Clinic Feb. 23
WEST HATFIELD — Got a good arm? Want to keep it that way? Cooley Dickinson Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, together with Cooley Dickinson Rehab Services, invites student athletes of all ages, as well as parents, coaches, and athletic trainers, to a throwers’ clinic on Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 4 West St., West Hatfield.
Sports-medicine physician and youth baseball coach Dr. Jonathan Fallon, together with physical therapists Steve Markey and Dan Skowera, will walk participants through causes and preventive strategies related to injuries that commonly affect the throwing athlete.
Through discussion, hands-on instruction, and individual assessment, participants will learn sport-specific conditioning techniques for the protection of vulnerable elbow and shoulder joints. There will also be breakout sessions with the athletes divided into groups and taken through beginner, intermediate, and advanced exercises based on ability level. Core conditioning and appropriate dynamic warmup will also be covered.
All students will receive a free water bottle and exercise handouts to help them prepare for the spring sports season. Light refreshments will be available.
A signed liability waiver is required for participation; waivers will be available at the event. Space is limited. For more information or to register, contact Sandra Dubois, practice manager, Cooley Dickinson Medical Group Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, at (413) 341-2201 or sandra_dubois@cooley-dickinson.org.
