Cooley Dickinson Hires Two Intensivists

NORTHAMPTON — Cooley Dickin-son Hospital has hired two intensivists — Carla Nordstrom, MD, MPH, FCCP; and David Serlin, MD — who specialize in the care of critically ill patients.

Based in CDH’s Critical Care unit and not in private practice, Nordstrom and Serlin are multi-certified in pulmonary medicine, internal medicine, and critical care. To practice as an intensivist requires, at minimum, an additional three years of medical school.

Dr. Glenn Focht, vice president of medical affairs, said Nordstrom and Serlin “will be available to work with all doctors at CDH in both emergent and non-emergent situations and will collaborate with Cooley’s hospitalist team.” The Intensivists complement an existing patient-care team of skilled critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, and other care staff.

Nordstrom received her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She has extensive experience in the fields of Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine. She relocated to the Northampton area from Philadelphia where she worked as an intensivist at Mercy Hospital. Among her many faculty appointments, Nordstom has ties to Dartmouth Medical School and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Serlin received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed his postgraduate training in both Allergy/Immunology and Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine at Boston University School of Medicine.
