WARE — A $40,000 gift from Country Bank for Savings in Ware has enabled Baystate Mary Lane Hospital to purchase a new sterilizer for the Surgical Services Department, allowing staff to utilize the hospital’s sterile-processing area more efficiently.
“The new Steris washer/disinfector has made the cleaning and processing of surgical instruments more cost-efficient by allowing us to process larger amounts of instruments at one time, as well as allowing staff to decrease their exposure to contaminants,” said Norma Berthiaume, manager of Surgical Services. Hospital President Christine F. Shirtcliff noted that the community-minded spirit of Country Bank in helping to assure that the best quality of care and the latest technologies are available to patients in the Ware area.
“Country Bank has long supported the hospital’s fund-raising activities and has made a critical difference in helping us to better provide for our patients,” she said. Donations from Country Bank over the past 20 years have assisted in the purchase of state-of-the-art mammography and X-ray technology, orthopedic equipment for the Surgical Services Department, and renovations of the hospital’s Surgical Services Suite.
