Franklin Medical Center Reaches Milestone in Second Century Campaign

GREENFIELD — Franklin Medical Center has reached a major milestone in its Second Century Campaign, recently passing the $5 million mark in the $5.5 million campaign. Robert Cohn, co-chair of the hospital’s campaign, announced the latest achievement during a recent Campaign Cabinet meeting. The campaign will help fund renovations in three key areas at the hospital: the Emergency Department, Radiology, and Inpatient Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care units.

“I’m excited to announce that we are beginning the final push in our campaign,” Cohn noted. “Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteer solicitors and some incredible generosity from community leaders who have already come forward in support of our hospital, we have raised more money than has ever been raised before in a capital campaign for a local Franklin County charity.

Cohn cautioned that the hospital still has $500,000 to raise, “and that is no small amount. We’ll be looking to the community Franklin Medical Center serves to help us. Each and every gift we receive from now on will be crucial to our success. I am confident that, under the leadership of our major gifts chair, Ed Tombs, and our community gifts chair, Amy Clarke, our volunteers will enable us to reach our $5.5 million goal. I actually would love to see us reach at least $6 million, to help alleviate the financial burden FMC is taking on for these renovations.”

Michael Skinner, president of Franklin Medical Center, explained the significance of exceeding the $5.5 million goal. “At this point, the hospital is committed to funding a portion of the renovations through its operating budget,” he said. “The more we can raise above $5.5 million, the less will have to come out of our day-to-day operating expenses, and the more the hospital can commit to maintaining its ongoing programs and services.”

Skinner praised the leadership of Robert and Mary Cohn during the campaign, saying, “Robby and Mary, through their work on the campaign, have really opened new lines of communication between FMC and individuals in our community. Many people in the community have become much better acquainted with Franklin Medical Center and have a better understanding of the hospital’s vital role in our community.”
