Free Seminar on Colon Health to Be Offered on Oct. 23
SPRINGFIELD — Baystate Health’s Senior Class will hold a free seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 23 titled “Scope It Out! Colon Health.”
The event will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Baystate Health Education Center at 61 Whitney Ave. in Holyoke.
Colon cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, is the second-leading cause of cancer death in both men and women, and the risk increases with age. The good news, however, is that it is preventable and curable if found early through different tests such as colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and others.
Baystate Medical Center colorectal surgeon Dr. Ziad Kutayli, who also serves as director of robotic surgery at the hospital, will lead the night’s discussion, which will focus on prevention, screening, latest research, risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of colon cancer. Refreshments will be served.
