Fundraiser on Sept. 10 Seeks to Make a Splash Against Childhood Cancer
PITTSFIELD — September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and two Berkshire moms are making a splash, with a fundraiser in the Walmart parking lot in Pittsfield on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a dunk tank, food truck, and kid-friendly activities to raise money for the battle against childhood cancer.
Organizers Christen Simmons and Stephanie Maschino say childhood cancer is underfunded, receiving only 4% of government-allocated funds for cancer research. Meanwhile, one in six kids diagnosed with cancer will not live five years past diagnosis. They want to change that. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to Boston Childrens Oncology and Baystate Pediatric Oncology.
