HCC Program Series Targets Those 55 and Older
HOLYOKE — Classes focusing on preventing healthcare mistakes, art and jazz, and avoiding scams are among the new offerings this fall in an Holyoke Community College program greared for people 55 and older.
The “Living Fully at 55+” series begins Sept. 19 continues with 10 other courses through December. All the classes meet on the main HCC campus at 303 Homestead Ave., Holyoke, and most are single sessions. “It’s a way to get folks on campus and give them some good information without a long commitment,” said Ken White, dean of community services.
Costs run from free to $39 for a single session course, up to $85-$109 for multi-session courses.
This is the third year HCC has offered the “Living Fully at 55+” series. “The classes have been very well received, and we’re adding a handful of new ones every semester,” White said.

- ‘Elder Law & Estate Planning,’ Sept. 19-Oct. 23, 6-8 p.m.; $85.
- ‘Jazz Retrospective,’ Sept. 23, 9 a.m.-noon; $19.
- ‘Over 55 … Now What?’ Sept. 27-Oct. 18, 6:15-8:30 p.m.; $109.
- ‘Preventing Healthcare Errors, Fraud & Abuse,’ Oct. 14, 9 a.m. – noon; free.
- ‘Social Security Income Enhancing Strategies,’ Oct. 17, 6-8 p.m.; $49.
- ‘Stay Safe: Avoid Scams & Protect Your Property and Identity,’ Oct. 21, 9 a.m.-noon; $19.
- “Caring for an Aging Family Member,” Oct. 26, 6:15-8:30 p.m., $29.
- ‘Art History: The Impressionist Painters,’ Nov. 4, 9 a.m. – noon; $29.
- ‘Don’t Downsize Your Life, Right Size It!’ Nov. 17, 6-9 p.m., $29.
