Health New England Brings Cornhole Tournaments to Berkshire County Senior Centers
SPRINGFIELD — Health New England is bringing a series of cornhole tournaments to seven Berkshire County senior centers in the inaugural Health New England Cornhole Summer Extravaganza.
Seniors will participate in tournaments leading up to and around World Cornhole Day on July 27 to determine each center’s cornhole champs. A trophy and bragging rights are at stake. The participants and onlookers will enjoy an outdoor picnic atmosphere (weather permitting) with music and refreshments.
In cornhole, also called baggo or soft horseshoes, players throw beanbags to boards with holes in them, scoring points for landing on the board or in the hole. Special accommodations will be available for those with less mobility.
The tournaments will run from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on each of these dates:
• Friday, July 12: Claire Teague Senior Center, 917 Main St., Great Barrington;
• Monday, July 15: Adams Visitor Center, 3 Hoosac St., Adams;
• Tuesday, July 16: Sheffield Senior Center, 25 Cook Road, Sheffield;
• Friday, July 19: The Harper Center, 118 Church St., Williamstown;
• Friday, July 26: Dalton Senior Center, 40 Field St. Ext., Dalton;
• Monday, July 29: Ralph J. Froio Senior Center, 330 North St., Pittsfield; and
• Wednesday, July 31: Spitzer Center, 116 Ashland St., North Adams.
All seniors are welcome to attend. Seniors interested in participating should contact their centers for details.
“We are thrilled to bring these cornhole tournaments to Berkshire County. The series is not only about friendly competition, but also about promoting an active lifestyle and social interaction among our senior residents,” said Lee Jaggi, Medicare plan specialist at Health New England, who came up with the idea for the tournament.
The event underscores Health New England’s commitment to supporting community wellness initiatives and promoting healthy aging. It provides an opportunity for seniors to stay active, connect with peers, and enjoy a day of fun.
