Holyoke Medical Center Earns ‘A’ Grade for Patient Safety
HOLYOKE — Holyoke Medical Center (HMC) has again earned an ‘A’ rating from the Leapfrog Group, ranking it among the safest hospitals in the U.S. The Leapfrog Group is a national patient-safety watchdog assigning safety grades of ‘A,’ ‘B,’ ‘C,’ ‘D,’ and ‘F’ to hospitals nationwide.
“This ‘A’ rating acknowledges on a national stage the hard work of HMC’s physicians, nurses, and each and every member of our staff for their commitment to safety and patient-centered care,” said Spiros Hatiras, president and CEO of Holyoke Medical Center and Valley Health Systems Inc.
Added Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group, “avoidable deaths in hospitals should be the number-one concern of our healthcare leaders. Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ from Leapfrog are leaders in saving lives, and we commend them and urge their continued vigilance.”
Leapfrog uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. They are calculated by top patient-safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
