Holyoke Medical Center Presents Breast-cancer Awareness Events

HOLYOKE — Holyoke Medical Center will presenting various events, including two specifically geared toward the public, free of charge in October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. HMC invites anyone to stop by for education, screenings, and a special tea for survivors.

On Oct. 11, a Breast Health Fair will take place in the hospital’s main lobby from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. People looking for preventative information on breast cancer or are currently being treated will find the event helpful. Stop by and schedule a mammogram, grab a chair massage, surprise someone with a pink carnation or rose, or enter one of many free raffles. Meanwhile, learn why HMC is one of only seven hospitals in the state to receive accreditation for breast cancer care. Refreshments will be served.

On Oct. 24, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Holyoke Medical Center will host a Pink Tea for all breast-cancer patients and survivors at 2 p.m. in the Fran Como Conference Room. At 2:30 p.m, a Look Good Feel Better event will be presented for all women currently undergoing breast-cancer treatment. This will include a beauty lesson, free makeup kit (valued at $250), wig care, styling, and tips on how to utilize scarves and turbans. Pre-registration is required. Appointments for free breast-cancer examinations with Dr. Zubeena Mateen or Laura O’Donnell will also be available every Tuesday in October between noon and 1 p.m. Appointments are necessary. Call (413) 534-2789 to make an appointment.
