Hunting for a Cure 5K Run/Walk Slated for Oct. 18 in Holyoke
HOLYOKE — The Hunting for a Cure 5K Run/Walk, to benefit the fight against Huntington’s disease, will take place at the Holyoke Lodge of Elks on Saturday, Oct. 18. The course stretches 3.1 miles around Ashley Reservoir.
The event begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start for all runners and walkers. Plan to stick around afterward for food provided by Hamel’s Catering and Meeting House, as well as live music from the Franny-O Show, raffles, and more.
Huntington’s disease (HD) is an inherited, progressively degenerative brain disorder that results in the loss of both mental faculties and physical control. Presently, there is no effective treatment or cure. Each child of a parent with HD has a 50{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} chance of inheriting the gene.
