Ironworkers Local 7 Donates $10,000 to BFMC Campaign

GREENFIELD — As Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s new surgery building began to take shape this past winter, members of Ironworkers Local 7 braved the cold to set the beams in place. Recently, Ironworkers Local 7, Boston/Springfield, further supported the project with a donation of $10,000 to the hospital’s Campaign for Keeping Care Local.

“Putting local ironworkers to work in the community is important to our members,” said Fiore Grassetti, industry analyst and business agent for Ironworkers Local 7. “We value the ongoing relationship we have with Baystate Health, and each one of our members understands the importance of strong local healthcare. When we work on a job like this, we’re building the space where we and our neighbors will receive care close to home, and we’re proud to be a part of that.”

As the frame of the surgery building was nearing completion at the end of February, ironworkers brushed snow off the final major beam so staff members, physicians, donors, and other members of the community could sign it and have their names forever included in the construction.

“At a moment like that, everyone feels part of caring for our community,” said Kelli Rafferty Barry, philanthropy officer for Baystate Franklin Medical Center. “We are grateful to the Ironworkers Local 7 for their generous gift, and for the many ways they have contributed to the overall success of this important community project.”
