JGS Lifecare to Hold Dedication, Ribbon Cutting Nov. 3
LONGMEADOW — JGS Lifecare will hold a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 3 to celebrate the new Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, the first certified Green House residence in Western Mass., and Michael’s Café, named in honor of the late Michael Frankel.
Construction of the 24,000-square-foot Sosin Center and the kosher café began in June 2015. The center, a two-house unit designed to accommodate 24 short-stay residents in total, provides state-of-the-art healing in a warm personal setting that’s designed to feel like home. All rooms are private, with full baths, and each home has a shared living room, dining room, den and kitchen.
JGS Lifecare is partnering with the Green House Project to implement the patient-centered model of care that reduces medication use and re-hospitalizations, while affording greater socialization and interaction with care givers. Michael’s Café, located in a glass-enclosed promenade that connects to the Leavitt Family Jewish Home, is a place for residents, guests, and community members to nosh and gather with friends and family. Grand openings of the Sosin Center and café will be announced following successful completion of all regulatory requirements.
The Sosin Center is located at 770 Converse St., Longmeadow. The Nov. 3 program will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the ribbon cutting at 11:15 a.m. A reception and tours will follow the program.
This fall marks the completion of Phase I of Project Transformation, a visionary plan to transform elder-care services at JGS Lifecare, with major initiatives including the Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, Michael’s Café, and an enhanced Ruth’s House Assisted Living Residence. Phase II will turn to modernizing two wings of the Leavitt Family Jewish Home in the patient-centered, small-house model of care, and expanding Wernick Adult Day Health Care, adding a specialized Alzheimer’s program.
