JGS Lifecare to Host Alzheimer’s Disease Panel Discussion on Sept. 13

LONGMEADOW — JGS Lifecare will host “Hope & Help: What You Need to Know about Alzheimer’s Disease” on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gloth Family Auditorium within the Leavitt Family Jewish Home on the JGS campus at 770 Converse St., Longmeadow.

The event will feature a panel of local experts from across the care spectrum who will offer information, support, and resources to help families recognize and cope when a loved one has Alzheimer’s disease.

“Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-impairment disorders create many practical and emotional challenges for patients and their families,” said Susan Kimball Halpern, vice president of Philanthropy at JGS Lifecare. “However, there is a growing number of local resources available to families that provide support, care, and guidance. This evening will be very valuable for anyone who cares or may one day care for someone with dementia.”

JGS Lifecare is part of the Dementia Friendly Longmeadow initiative. Experts from a variety of organizations will discuss the latest information about screening, diagnosis, and treatment; legal and financial considerations; care options, including at-home care, adult day care, assisted living, and skilled nursing; community resources available for support; and a personal story from a professional whose husband has Alzheimer’s disease.
