JGS Lifecare’s Dementia Caregiver Support Group Returns in Person
LONGMEADOW — JGS Lifecare will resume its caregiver support group in person beginning Tuesday, Jan. 10. It will run the second and fourth weeks of January through April, skipping April 11 (Passover). All meetings take place from 11 a.m. to noon.
This group, which will meet in the coffee shop off the lobby of the Leavitt Family Jewish Home, is for active caregivers (in any amount or capacity) who are caring for someone living with dementia (of all types and stages). There is no cost to the participants.
Caregiver support groups are ongoing meetings that provide caregivers a forum to connect with other caregivers where they can share issues, needs, concerns, and feelings in a confidential, safe, supportive, non-threatening, and non-judgmental atmosphere. It’s a place where attendees know that everyone in the group understands their caregiving journey because they are experiencing the same or similar circumstances. This is a peer group where each participant is free to share their issues as well as solutions and suggestions to help fellow group members.
The facilitator is Mark Nutting, a support-group facilitator through the Alzheimer’s Assoc. RSVP to Mary-Anne Schelb at (413) 935-1791 or mschelb@jgslifecare.org.
