Local Cosmetic Surgeon Reports Buttock Augmentation on the Rise

LONGMEADOW — Dr. Glen Brooks of Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, P.C., a community-centered cosmetic-surgery and non-invasive practice serving Western Mass. and Northern Conn., shared aesthetic plastic-surgery trends for 2014 calendar year released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

According to the ASAPS, significant technological advances in the cosmetic field have revealed distinct trends in aesthetic plastic surgery nationally, including an increase in buttock augmentations — a procedure offered by Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery — which rose by 86{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} in just 12 months. In addition, the ASAPS found that non-surgical fat-reduction procedures rose 43{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} last year. More than 10 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed during the year, according to the report.

“Cosmetic procedures, whether minimally invasive or surgical, can change a person’s life, which is evident through this increase in cosmetic procedures in 2014 compared to 2013,” said Brooks, a board-certified plastic surgeon. “Cosmetic plastic surgery and non-invasive options to improve the appearance of a single body feature like the breast, tummy, or buttocks can increase a person’s self-confidence, not to mention their overall satisfaction with life.” In addition to increasing self-confidence, new research from the Journal of the American Medical Assoc. indicates that cosmetic surgery could actually make people more likeable.

For the second consecutive year, the ASAPS statistical data showed a dramatic increase in the number of buttock augmentations performed over a one-year period. There are several different ways a plastic surgeon can help an individual augment their buttocks, including implants and fat grafting, the former increasing by 98{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} from 2013 to 2014. This trend report shows a significant rise in demand for an hourglass shape, made famous by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Nikki Minaj.

“Buttock implants and lifts are among the fastest-growing procedures. Butt implants increased 98{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5}, while butt lifts rose by 44{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5}. These numbers indicate a growing trend in cosmetic surgery,” Brooks said. “Butt augmentation with fat grafting remains the most frequent procedure, but implants and lifts are gaining in popularity.”

Additionally, all cosmetic surgical procedures rose by 1{06cf2b9696b159f874511d23dbc893eb1ac83014175ed30550cfff22781411e5} to nearly 1.7 million procedures in 2014. Breast augmentation topped the list with 286,254 procedures last year, closely followed by nose reshaping (217,123 procedures), liposuction (210,552 procedures), eyelid surgery (206,509 procedures), and facelift (128,266 procedures).
