Loomis House Nursing Center Recognized for Excellence
HOLYOKE — Loomis Communities has announced that Loomis House Nursing Center has received two deficiency-free surveys from the state Department of Public Health (DPH) for the second year in a row.
“Deficiency-free surveys are a top indicator of excellence in nursing homes and difficult to achieve,” said Loomis Communities President and CEO David Scruggs, adding that the DPH reviews all areas of care practices to make sure all regulations are followed. These areas include resident rights, facility practices, infection control, quality of life, resident satisfaction, quality of care delivered, culinary services, all nursing and ancillary services, rehabilitation, physical environment, and administration. In addition, a life-safety survey reviews the physical-plant issues that contribute to a safe living and working environment.
The Loomis House Nursing Center was the first nursing home in Massachusetts to receive certification as a leader in providing ‘person-centered care,’ which adapts the way care is delivered to accommodate each resident’s preferences. “This holistic approach to successful aging and self-determination honors and respects the individual,” Scruggs said.
The certification comes from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International, an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human-services organizations. Loomis Communities provides continuing care, specialized care, and health-wellness resources on four campuses: Applewood in Amherst, Loomis House in Holyoke, Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing in Springfield, and Loomis Village in South Hadley.
