GREENFIELD – Debra Marquis, RN, BSN, CMCN, an advanced practice specialist in case management, has joined the team at Franklin Medical Center as manager of the hospital’s Case Management department. She had previously served as a nurse manager with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, leading teams of nurses in on-site utilization review and discharge planning for high volume healthcare facilities from the South Shore to Worcester to Springfield, where one of her sites was Baystate Medical Center.
A native of Western Mass., Marquis grew up in South Hadley, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee. While in college, she worked as an admissions clerk at Holyoke Hospital, and took her first staff nursing position there following her graduation in 1983.
Concurrent with her hospital position, she began working with Greater Springfield Senior Services where she completed evaluations for home care. She then joined the staff at Aetna, where she further developed her interest and expertise in the field of case management.
As assessors, planners, facilitators, and advocates, case managers assist patients with coordination of complex care, and help facilitate a smooth transition from the acute care hospital setting to rehabilitation, sub-acute, skilled nursing facilities or home care services. The case management team at Franklin Medical Center includes nine nurses and a medical social worker.
Marquis, who is specialty certified in Case Management, oversees their practice and also works directly with the area agencies that follow patients post-discharge from the hospital.
