Mercy Medical Center Celebrates Heritage Week
SPRINGFIELD — Mercy Medical Center wrapped up its Heritage Week celebration last week, a time when it reflects on the early days of its health ministry and the many contributions the Sisters of Providence have made to the local community.
Heritage Week, July 19-23, featured a colleague barbeque, a collection drive for the homeless, a performance by the Dukes of Hazardville, education about community health and well-being initiatives, and a cornhole competition.
These Heritage Week events not only provided an opportunity for colleagues to celebrate and pay tribute to the Sisters of Providence for creating and supporting the health ministry, but they also allowed them to contemplate their role as caretakers of the Sisters’ mission, vision, and values.
Sister Mary Caritas, Mercy board member and former Mercy Hospital president, attended the colleague barbeque and recounted stories about the beginnings of the health ministry and thanked colleagues for their continued commitment to providing a healing environment for the local community.
