Mercy Medical Center Welcomes New Gynecologic Oncologist and Breast Surgeon
SPRINGFIELD — Mercy Medical Center recently welcomed Dr. Nada Kawar to its team of physicians and providers.
Kawar specializes in the care of women’s cancers, treating the full range of gynecologic malignancies, including cancers of the breast, cervix, endometrium/uterus, fallopian tube, ovary, vagina, and vulva. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received certification in breast disease and breast surgery from the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. She is certified in fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery from the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
She completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology and breast surgery at Brown University/Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island in Providence, and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of California San Francisco Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
Kawar is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, where she serves as a member of the wellness task force. She most recently served as co-director of Gynecology at Baystate Medical Center, and as assistant professor in the departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Surgery at UMass Medical School – Baystate. She has extensive experience in clinical research as a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group/NRG Oncology.
Kawar’s clinical areas of interest include minimally invasive procedures (including da Vinci robotic surgery) for patients with gynecologic malignancies and other complex benign gynecologic conditions; radical procedures for treatment of gynecologic malignancies; risk-reducing surgery in patients with familial susceptibility for breast, ovarian, and endometrial cancer; and oncoplastic breast surgery.
