Mercy Offers State-of-the-Art MRI Technology
SPRINGFIELD — The Diagnostic Imaging Department at Mercy Medical Center now offers the latest MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) services with the addition of the new 3.0T MR system to the list of technologies used to help diagnose possible illness and injury.
The new Signa HDx 3.0T MR system at Mercy is the world’s most advanced 3.0T MR scanner, delivering highly detailed images of the human body with increased speed, better resolution, and unique applications. The system, produced by GE Healthcare, is particularly noted for delivering high field strength that provides higher resolution imaging.
“This feature allows for more distinct margins in patients who present with breast tumors, and such clear detail is vital in making an accurate diagnosis. It also provides more detailed and accurate images of the spine, and it greatly facilitates liver and vascular exams,” said Dr. Gregory Blackman. “Additionally, the system better accommodates patient motion during brain scans, which reduces the need for retakes.”
The Signa HDx 3.0T MR system at Mercy Medical Center provides MRI exams through a joint venture with Alliance Imaging Inc.
“The acquisition and utilization of the Signa HDx 3.0T MR system is another example of Mercy Medical Center’s ongoing commitment to delivering outstanding health care through the use of state-of-the-art technology,” said Dr. William Bithoney, chief medical officer of the Sisters of Providence Health System and chief operating officer of Mercy Medical Center. “This particular system not only provides the highest quality of images available to assure an accurate diagnosis, it also offers patients a shorter exam time to make the experience more comfortable.”
